Civilization – Modern Role of Landscape Architecture
Dubai Convention Centre January 20-21,22nd 2007 Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The papers presented at the Conference for “Civilization – the Modern Role of Landscape Architecture” will focus on the varying roles of landscape architects and the profession in today’s world. The 3 day conference will focus on global, Middle Eastern and African issues.  The UAE in particular is considered an important region globally for the development of the profession in the Middle East and Africa.  The 3 daily themes are:

Day 1: Urban & Natural Landscape Architecture; Political Divide – Boundaries vs. Obligation; Protocol, Process & Principles

Day 2:  Arid Environment; Developing Design within a Green Infrastructure

Day 3: Treasure: Micro-Planning on an Urban Scale; Re-Landscape Development of War-Torn Regions

AFRICA FORUM:  This forum concentrates specifically on Africa with additional papers from various IFLA-recognised associations (presented by their members, contemporaries and students), commences at the close of Day 3 (16:00 – 18:00).

The emphasis of the papers will be on the modern role of the landscape architect as opposed to the historical or conventional roles. Papers will also address the social, economic, and political contexts within which the landscape architect has to work.
